Summer is my favorite season for reading. If you are like me, this time of year you are scouring the internet for “best of” book lists, hoping to build that perfect reading list for vacation or time away. Each month here at Develop to Deploy, I post a list of recommended reading.

Atomic Habits by James Clear

Incredible book on creating effective habits.

Leadership in War by Andrew Roberts

Provides fascinating insights into the minds of military leaders throughout history. Engrossing read.

From Adam and Israel to the Church: A Biblical Theology of the People of God by Benjamin L. Gladd

Good scholarship tracing a fascinating thread of biblical theology. Gladd is thought-provoking and thoroughly biblical.

Orthodoxy by GK Chesterton 

A Christian classic. Chesterton’s philosophical brilliance is on full display here. 

The Accidental President: Harry Truman and the Four Months that Changed the World by A.J. Baime

This page-turner shows a man who was uniquely qualified for just such a moment. There are some indispensable lessons for leaders in this book.

From Chaos to Cosmos: Creation to New Creation by Sidney Greidanus 

If you are looking to stretch yourself theologically and deepen your understanding of the Bible-narrative this is an excellent starting point.

Christianity at a Crossroads: How the Second Century Shaped the Future of the Church by Michael Kruger 

Few books have been written about the second-century church. Michael Kruger does the church a tremendous service in this introduction to second-century Christianity.

The Infinite Game by Simon Sinek

What does it mean to “win” as an organization and how is true success measured. With its focus on organizational health and long term sustainability, this book would helpful for business leaders and church leaders alike.
